A William III walnut, marquetry and oyster veneered longcase clock by Jasper Taylor London late 17th century the 10" square dial with silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals, minute track and outer Arabic minutes, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and winged mask spandrels, signed Jasper Taylor Londini Fecit, 8 day 5 pillar brass two train movement striking on a bell, the hood with a flat stepped moulded cornice over a pierced fret carved frieze, engaged barley twist and glazed sides, the door decorated with three marquetry panels depicting a bird amongst floral sprays, on a box base with conforming marquetry and compressed bun feet height 196cm. Condition:winding key, weights and pendulum present. No guarantee can be offered as to the full working order. Shrinkage crack to backboard travelling up from base to centre of trunk. case has been repolished with some restoration and repairs. Small crack to lenticle glass on edge.

A George II figured walnut longcase clock with moonphase, alarm and annual calendar by John Crolee, London c.1755 the 13" arched brass dial with moonphase to arch with a band of engraving above and hemispheres below, silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals, minute track and outer Arabic seconds, calendar aperture, subsidiary seconds and alarm dials, and either side of the seconds ring two large cutouts in the form of sectors with scrolled bevelled edges, on the left side is shown the day of the week and ruling deity on the right the month and its zodiacal sign, strike/silent regulation at 9 o'clock and female mask spandrels, signed John Crolee, five pillar rack striking movement on a bell, brass cased weights, the case crossbanded and chequer strung, the arched hood covered in tooled leather and surmounted by gilt brass flambeau finials, over a glazed door blind fret frieze flanked by fluted and brass strung columns, the sides glazed, the trunk with arched door and gently curved sides, on a box base raised on a double plinth height including finials 241.5cm. Condition:Winds, ticks and runs however no guarantee can be offered as to the full working order. Winding key, pendulum and weights present. Some veneer to base absent. Some of these pieces are detached but present. Shrinkage cracks to trunk either side of the break arch of the door. The case with light knocks and dings. Interior gilt very rubbed.
This cigarette case was presented to the owner's uncle, David Farrar, star of the 1950 film 'Gone to Earth'.
